  • Lily Saari

    Graduate Clinical Intern

Lily intends to receive her MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Oakland University in April 2022. She is a member of the American Psychological Association and Chi Sigma Iota, the national honor society for counseling students. She also is a sitting student committee member for academic advising development at Oakland University as an advocate for students’ needs in successfully completing their degree. While completing her MA in Counseling, Lily has worked individually with diverse individuals of all ages as a writing consultant at Oakland University and as a preschool teacher. Her passion is serving others and creating space for others to seek guidance.

Her focus of counseling is centered around learning and creating a mental toolbox of strategies that can be used in maneuvering conflicts in all stages of life. These include goal setting, scaffolding and psychoeducation. All clients, regardless of age can benefit from enhancing their knowledge on self-awareness and healthy emotional regulation. Every client also has a different perspective on what healthy living is and respect those boundaries accordingly. My intended target population is families, particularly children and adolescents with the hope that these skills can be refined throughout the course of their life. I also would like to specialize in marriage and family at some point to work with parents of these children to assist them in creating patterns that fit the lifestyle they are trying to create.

She believes everyone has a right to advocate for their needs and grow through obstacles in a way that they can understand. She uses an integrative Humanistic theoretical approach that also utilizes Narrative and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy tactics to help clients organize information into a chronological sequence and practice goal setting using concrete thoughts and behaviors. Every individual has a story, and she hopes to collaborate with clients to enhance the formative skills needed to live out their future chapters.

Lily has experience working with individuals as well as couples in counseling and enjoys working with families, particularly children and adolescents with the hope that these skills can be refined throughout the course of their life. She aims to serve any individual seeking care, but takes a special interest in depression, anxiety, eating disorders and couple and family struggles. She looks forward to meeting and working with all her future clients.
