Lena Canu

Lena received both her Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences and Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Oakland University. Lena has experience providing therapy to late adolescents, young adults, and adults. She currently offers services to those 18+. Prior to counseling, Lena worked in pediatric rehabilitation services helping individuals with a wide range of cognitive and physical disabilities. Lena feels this position has led her to become a passionate individual who takes a great deal of care with those who are faced with everyday struggles.

Lena believes that her clients are the ultimate experts to their own life. She seeks to work alongside you to help guide and navigate you through life’s challenges. Lena values creating a strong therapeutic relationship with all her clients to help them achieve a deeper level of insight, self-awareness, and empowerment.

Lena is passionate about supporting individuals navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, trauma, stressful life events, self-image and body image concerns, and self-harm behaviors. Her approach is integrative and person-centered, drawing from a range of evidence-based counseling techniques, with a primary focus on Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) as her preferred modality. She also incorporates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Solution-Focused Therapy. Lena is committed to creating a warm, safe, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel supported in their journey toward growth and healing.
